Freedom of Speech? Not in Modern America
“In the months before the 2004 election, dozens of people across the nation were banished from or arrested at Bush political rallies, some for heckling the president, others simply for holding signs or wearing clothing that expressed opposition to the war and administration policies.
Similar things have happened at official, taxpayer-funded, presidential visits, before and after the election. Some targeted by security have been escorted from events, while others have been arrested and charged with misdemeanors that were later dropped by local prosecutors.”
I know this is sort of old news, but it deserves to be brought up again (and again and again). If this was one person complaining about being removed, I’d probably say they weren’t being truthful and had done something disruptive. But this isn’t one person, or even a single group. It is a pattern of behavior that has to stop. People are being arrested in the US for holding signs that say “No more war” and buttons that promote the opposition party. Now there are lawsuits coming in which hopefully will put a stop to this fascist practice. But they shouldn’t have to in the first place. This is not freedom. Can you imagine what Thomas Jefferson would say about this?
