2 out of 5 Americans believe Muslims should carry special I.D.

According to a new Gallup poll, 39% of Americans believe that the government should force Muslims to carry a special form of I.D.

Almost four in ten, 39%, advocate that Muslims here should carry special I.D. That same number admit that they do hold some “prejudice” against Muslims. Forty-four percent say their religious views are too “extreme.”

In every case, Americans who actually know any Muslims are more sympathethic.

You know, sometimes, I don’t even know what country I am living in anymore. Special I.D.?! While we’re at it why don’t we make the Jews wear the Star of David too? You’ve got senators saying things like, “Every major Islamic leader, from heads of states to al-Qaida has openly identified the United States as their prime target and repeatedly promises the creation of a new global caliphate, where Islamic fascism will rule mankind.”

And the President saying, “This is the beginning of a long struggle against an ideology that is real and profound,” the president said. “It’s Islamo-fascism. It comes in different forms. They share the same tactics, which is to destroy people and things in order to create chaos in the hopes that their vision of the world becomes predominant in the Middle East.” Switch the world Islamo with Christian and they could say the same thing about us.

It isn’t even fascism.

Stanford University linguist Goeffrey Nunberg argues that fascism is not really the right word to describe this global terror network.
“There’s no historical or philosophical connection between al-Qaida and fascism,” says Nunberg, an expert on the language of politics. “They’re creepy people, but that doesn’t mean they’re fascist.”

But it sounds scary in election season, so who cares if it’s accurate, right?

  1. I wonder how much overlap there is between that 39% and the similar percentage that don’t believe in evolution. The factors identified as effecting believe in evolution in the survey you posted about earlier could also be in effect here.

  2. […] More specifically, anyone remember the Cold War Anti-Soviet Propaganda? A big chunk of it involved damning the USSR for requiring that its citizens hold internal passports. With that in mind: 2 out of 5 Americans believe Muslims should carry special I.D. » The Allen Almanac […]

  3. Liberal thinking on race matters starts from two axioms: that all humans are equal, and that the West is profoundly guilty for violating that equality through its historically oppressive, exploitative, racist, and just plain mean treatment of non-Western groups. Therefore if members of a non-Western group do anything objectionable to us, it is an understandable reaction to that racist mistreatment. For example, it is widely believed in Britain, and in Europe generally, that Muslim terrorism and aggression is a response to Israel’s “illegal occupation” of Palestinian territories. The discovery that three of the 24 recently arrested terrorist suspects in London are native-born white Englishmen who converted to Islam—and that one of them, the son of a former Tory politician, converted only six months ago—upsets these liberal assumptions, since white Englishmen are not an oppressed group.

Liberals could end their cognitive dissonance if they would take in the simple fact that Islam is Islam—an integral belief system with its own structure, doctrine, and dynamic. Therefore it doesn’t matter if a Muslim was born Muslim in the Mideast and immigrated to Britain, or if he was born of Muslim immigrant parents in Britain, or if he was born of white Christian parents in Britain and converted to Islam. Once you are a Muslim, and once you go beyond the surface of your religion to its authoritative core, you come to jihad, the sacred unchangeable command to wage war on all infidels until they are converted, dhimmified, or dead.

That young white Englishmen converted to Islam and became suicide terrorists refutes all the escapist, Western-centric theories of Islamic extremism that are fashionable on the Left and among the intelligentsia: that Islamic extremism is caused by envy of Western power and success (Bernard Lewis), by the cultural dislocation of Islamic immigrants in the West (Francis Fukuyama), by Muslim despotism and lack of democracy (George W. Bush), by cousin marriage (Steve Sailer), by poverty (the Left), by Israeli oppression (the Left), or by American imperialism (the Left). No. The cause of Islamic extremism is Islam itself. Once we understand this, we can start to have an intelligent policy toward Islam.

  5. Well, I am not smart enough to refute what you say. I will say that none of the Muslims I have ever known have tried to wage war against me. I also find your name very fitting.

  6. Islam is far from being the only religion that follows a book that advocates violence, yet I don’t hear anyone suggesting that Christians or Jews carry special identification. The fact is that sometimes people do horrible things. Sometimes those people are religious, sometimes they are not. We should not punish entire people groups for the misbehavior of a few. Consider this: the vast majority of violent crimes are committed by men. Should we have special laws against all men because a few choose to assault, rape, and murder? Wouldn’t that be terribly unjust for the majority of men who don’t hurt other people? Special laws against Muslims would be similarly unjust.

  7. Muslims being required to carry special ID’s, is this for our sense of security? Historically speaking this has already been done before. The United States is the eminent power in the world today. With comes vulnerabilities, which are even greater as a Democracy; whose very nature lends it to allow its enemies the freedom to move within its boarders. Are we going to declare all Muslims as enemies or potential threats simply holding to Islam? As I said earlier special ID’s have been done before. It was not as a plastic card but a patch of cloth with the Star of David on it. It cost the lives of six million people. The question is, “ what path does America want to follow?

  8. This is scary because all the ’steps’ towards ’security’ aimed at ‘preventing terrorism’ lead inexorably to publicly sanctioned discrimination against Muslims in the name of US security. It is no longer inconceivable that there may one day be Muslim concentration camps in the US.

As for Palestinian occupation… Israel *does* occupy both Palestinian and Lebanese land and has terrorised the citizens of these countries on a daily basis for the past decades. Read your history and get your news from somewhere else besides FOX news and CNN.

  9. “Whoever kills a human being… then it is as though he has killed all mankind; and whoever saves a human life, it is as though he had saved all mankind.“ (Quran, Surah al-Maidah (5), verse 32)

The Holy Prophet (may peace be upon him) has given clear instructions about the behaviour of the Muslim army. He observed:

“Set out for Jihad in the name of Allah and for the sake of Allah. Do not lay hands on the old verging on death, on women, children and babes. Do not steal anything from the booty and collect together all that falls to your lot in the battlefield and do good, for Allah loves the virtuous and the pious.”

Islam never commanded to kill innocent people, especially women and children. It is strictly forbidden and a great sin in any situation. Also, how can an open war jihad be declared if there is no unified body of muslims. There is no hemogenous Ummah under the leadership of one Caliph to declare such a jihad on the West. To target all muslims would make absolutely no sense.
The actions of certain individuals is beyond my comprehension as a Muslim. It is obviously clear to anyone that killing innocent individuals who have no authortiy or command over their government makes no sense and is unIslamic.

  10. Smokeblender Says:

Seems that the U.S is getting more fascist by the day.

  11. […] Two out of 5 Americans think that Muslims need to carry a special Islamic ID (IID?) because they are “too extreme.” A similar number admit to holding “some” prejudice against Muslims… waitaminute could there possibly be a correlation here? […]

  12. Islamofascists is an accurate term - there is a political ideology that is running around disguising itself as a religion and using the same propaganda techniques that Goebbels used in an attempt to create another Caliphate. In 1936 the world, and Jews especially, had an enemy that they tried to pretend wasn’t real and wasn’t vile and wasn’t monstrous - Neville Chamberlain ring a bell?

When people say Islamofasicts - they aren’t saying Muslims. So your pal Habib is probably not seeking world domination. But does he hate “Zionists?” I bet he does.

When you criticize Zionists - remember the words of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., “How easy it should be, for anyone who holds dear this inalienable right of all mankind, to understand and support the right of the Jewish People to live in their ancient Land of Israel. All men of good will exult in the fulfilment of God’s promise, that his People should return in joy to rebuild their plundered land. This is Zionism, nothing more, nothing less.

And what is anti-Zionist? It is the denial to the Jewish people of a fundamental right that we justly claim for the people of Africa and freely accord all other nations of the Globe. It is discrimination against Jews, my friend, because they are Jews. In short, it is antisemitism.”

  13. Okay, i think the idea that islam has an authoritative core underneath its exterior that forces its members to be violent is crap. Personally, i think all religion is about people looking for belonging, so the fact that there are white muslim converts that are willing to kill shows that they A) have an interest in islam, and B) that they are willing to kill for what they believe in. Its entirely illogical to assume that when combined in a particular circumstance that they are integral facets of each other. What im trying to say, is that there are always violent people, and they will do violence in a variety of ways. These people are outside the social norm, and do NOT singulary represent their entire group any more then the actions of george bush represent me. (I’m a washington democrat for the record.)
Extremist Islam is no different then any other group of authoritate people brainwashing weaker people for their own perverse cause. I have read many things about how moderate muslim are tired of this extremist jihadist faction destroying their image. Kinda like how i’m tired of Bush and the Right making Europeans and other western civilizations believe that americans are all SUV driving, crimminal executing anti-abortionists.

  14. There’s some sloppy argument and thinking going on here because of treating Islam as a monolithic and homogenous worldview. It isn’t. Islam–like most world religions–is a diverse faith with very divergent sects and different pockets of belief.

Historically, there are also plenty of examples of large pockets of Christian-rooted groups that pursued fundamentalist and militant worldviews that are fundamentally at odds with most widely held notions of democracy, rule of law, and social justice. That fact doesn’t indite Christianity as a faith in its entirety.

We do have a problem with a growing strain of Islamic belief that is fundamentally at odds with modernity. The answer isn’t to paint sweeping and with that inaccurate vilifications of Muslims as whole. We need to find ways to help create pathes for belief changes within those communities at a pace and form that allows members to maintain their identity with the change.

  15. @Deadbambi.
If Israel has the right to exist, what about the Palestine. Zionist came 60 years ago and took it from its rightfull occupants, and today they want us to belive that actually, it were the palestinians who came and drove Israelis out of theis land.

And is it discriminating against the Palestinians to deny them the right to live, not to have a state, but to live, by destroying buildings and houses daily.
Is it discriminating to build a wall, the same kind that separedted jews from others in Europe, actually the one in Palestine is higher than those in Europe during WW2. It is sad to see a nation that had to live in a Getos and concentation camps, that they are now doing the same to the Palestinians, and deniying then the right to exist.
Surely Hitler would be proud of you for continuing his legacy.

  16. @deadbambi:

You -do- know that the Jewish people acquired ” their ancient Land of Israel”, don’t you? By terror and genocide. And all good Christians and Jews are proud of terrorism and genocide when they believe their God has commanded it:

    “When the LORD thy God shall bring thee into the land whither thou goest to possess it, and hath cast out many nations before thee, the Hittites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, seven nations greater and mightier than thou;

And when the LORD thy God shall deliver them before thee; thou shalt smite them, and utterly destroy them; thou shalt make no covenant with them, nor shew mercy unto them:

Neither shalt thou make marriages with them; thy daughter thou shalt not give unto his son, nor his daughter shalt thou take unto thy son.

For they will turn away thy son from following me, that they may serve other gods: so will the anger of the LORD be kindled against you, and destroy thee suddenly.

But thus shall ye deal with them; ye shall destroy their altars, and break down their images, and cut down their groves, and burn their graven images with fire.

    (Deuteronomy, Chapter 7, Verses 1-5).

Try to find a Hittite or a Jebusite these days. In percentage terms, the people of the god of Abraham were -much- more thorough than even the Nazis managed; these people managed complete genocide of seven races, showing no quarter, killing even the surrendered.

    Men, women, children.

    Everyone.

Face-to-face; not even with the excuse of the imprecise aim of rockets.

Read the Bible. Actually -read- it. Nothing that the worst of terrorists who claim Islam as their justification has yet done even comes close to the terrorism and genocide ordered by the god of those people who take the Old Testament (or Tanakh) as “sacred scripture”.

  17. G. W(ar) Bush tried to explain the US war on terrorism by saying: “It’s Islamo-fascism. .. it’s Islamic fascism … It comes in different forms…

It is a misuse of the word “Islamic”. “Islamic” has to do with the ideals and achievements of the Muslim religion. Thus, we speak of Islamic art. We speak of Islamic ethics.
There can be Muslim fascists, just as there can be Christian fascists (and were, in Spain, Italy and Germany, and parts of America; adopted by the US gov as close allies…

  19. Abdullah, I am so relieved to know that when your jihadist buddies come for me, they will spare my wife, children and grandparents. Now listen up. Muhammed was a pathological killer hiding behind religious extremism. If it were up to me, I’d fence your Muslim ass permanently in those territories you came from to keep that lunatic fringe in your midst from going bananas on jihad while here in my neighborhood. Unfortunately, my liberal white co-citizens are so taken by the concept of tolerence that they would rather die than save themselves. Let them die. The rest of us are going to resist the likes of you unto death.

  20. Xenophon, I would MUCH rather have Abdullah as my neighbor than you. Abdullah seems like a reasonable person. You, on the other hand, seem like a religious nut who I would never allow around my children. I find you much more threatening and wish you would go fence your own ass permenently somewhere before you hurt someone.

  21. jack buckley Says:

If they have nothing to hide WHATS THE BIG DEAL? plenty!!!!

  22. Sara, you don’t know ANYTHING about my religious views. Like most liberals, you assume so much and know so little. If Abdullah SEEMS so reasonable to you, by all means go and find a Muslim neighborhood and live there.

  23. Actually, I think I will stay in America, where people of ALL religious and cultural groups are supposed to be welcome. Thank goodness we have the US Constitution and Bill of Rights to protect people from assholes like you. And that is absolutely the last thing I am going to say to you. I have better things to do than argue with ignorant rednecks.

  24. Xenophon, I can only hope you are a troll. You are making an ass of yourself.

  25. And you can always tell when you’ve won an argument with a liberal because they start calling you racist and use profanity. Just like the juveniles they really are. You guys are so predictable. Nothing new to add to the usual multcultural homilies, get angry when challenged, offer no evidence to back up your emotion-based tirades, then walk away while lobbing a few well aimed epithets. Pathetic.

  26. I am not angry with you Xenophon. Why would I be? You are welcome to have whatever opinion you wish. Mostly I just feel sad that there is still so much ignorant bigotry in this world. Especially in America. America is an immigrant nation; the most multi-cultured nation in the history of mankind. And yet, even here in the land where all men are supposed to be equal, many in our nation still hold onto these xenophobic ideas. If humanity cannot coexist peacefully here, then I can’t hold out much hope for it to ever do so. Maybe that should make me angry, but right now I’m just sad.

  27. I wish non-violent Muslims would speak out more in this country. People need to see that these are just regular people. The poll showed that those who knew Muslims were more tolerant. Maybe this problem is just based on fear of the unknown. Maybe high schools should have programs on tolerance, religious and otherwise, where they bring in regular people to talk about their religion, sexual orientation, ethnic background, etc., so kids can learn to accept those who are different from them, sort of promoting a live-and-let-live attitude.

  28. In a country where 40% of the population felt you should be carrying special ID because of your religion, would you want to speak up? I’ve long thought that High Schools could have a Cultural Experience class where every week they bring a guest speaker and have them explain their life and their beliefs. Of course, you run into the problem of “should we draw a line and where would it be?” Should we be letting pedophiles and Klansmen come talk to our kids? But if you start excluding them, you would have to be willing to exclude others. The only way I could see it working is to let parents opt their children out of it like sex-ed, and then you would just have bigotted parents holding their kids out of any classes they didn’t want them in. Not that it would ever get approved as curriculum anyway.

  29. I thought this was the country of human rights. Did you ever think abut how many scientists, businessman and millions of valuable people would leave this country because of that?

  30. I would say draw the line at things that are illegal. Not a perfect plan, but still valuable, I think. And, as an athiest, I understand the not speaking up thing. I just wish things were different.

  31. Iain Bennett Says:

    Ok…

So what about White Muslims? Or those of a muslim background? What’s a good muslim and what’s a “potentially dangerous” muslim?

This is ridiculous! So, Mel Gibson is hauled over the coals for uttering racist slurs against those who believe in Judaism, but the President is allowed to generalise an entire religion in a negative fashion!?

Regligion is NOT a nationality, it is a BELIEF that ANYONE with a brain can decide to opt in or out of.

  32. My goodness. I go away for a little while and nothing gets done. Let’s try a little harder, children. We’ll start slowly so your brains don’t explode. Think for a moment about that well-worn descriptor “Islamic fascists.”

How ironic that this euphemistic phrase “Islamic fascists” is being attacked by Muslims, by the left (Eleanor Clift), and by the anti-war right (Patrick Buchanan) as a smear on all Muslims, when in reality the intent and effect of “Islamic fascists” is to say that Islam is not the problem, only “Islamic fascists“ are the problem. In other words, so hyper politically correct are we today, that a politically correct term that shies away from properly identifying our enemies is considered a smear on our enemies. A further irony is that being attacked for smearing Muslims will lead the users of the “Islamic fascist” label to imagine that they are being hard-line, when in fact they are avoiding speaking the truth about our enemies. I know this is getting complicated. You may want to go back and read that again.

I agree that “Islamic fascists” is closer to the truth than Bush’s earlier term (and still his main term), “terrorism,” because it at least brings Islam into the picture, and so may help move the discussion forward from the realm of total euphemism to the realm of half euphemism. Yet it is still a ridiculous description. Fascism is a 20th century European ideology. Islam has been around since the 7th century. The Islamic agenda to impose the totalistic rule of Islam on the whole world has nothing to do with fascism. It’s what Islam has been attempting to do for 1,400 years. Did you miss that part of your history lesson?

Please tell me this: Was Muhammad an Islamic fascist? Or was he simply a Muslim? Of course, even you wouldn’t call Muhammad, the founder of Islam, an Islamic fascist, because that would be patently absurd. But if Muhammad was not an Islamic fascist, then today’s jihadists are not Islamic fascists either, since they are devout and strict followers of Muhammad, of the Koran, and of the authoritative Islamic law as it has existed since the 8th century. They are hard-line Muslims who follow the jihadist core of the Islamic religion.

If you don’t want to call our enemy simply “Muslims,” or “Islam,” since that seems too sweeping and smears the “moderates,” then I suggest calling our enemies “jihadists.” That is an accurate term, since it simply means people who support jihad, which, by the way, means all serious Muslims.

    Have a nice day.

  33. Iain, I hear you. It’s fashionable to hate Muslims in this country, but socially unacceptable to hate Jews. Similarly, it is fashionable to hate Mexicans now, but not (insert ethnic group here). These trends come and go. In our history, Americans have hated Japanese, Irish, Jews, Catholics, African Americans, Native Americans, and the list goes on. People will eventually look back on the current hatred of Muslims (and Mexicans, and homosexuals, etc.) the way we look back on the hatred of other groups, with contempt.

  34. Oh, right, Iain. Once you “opt in” to Islam, you can just “opt out”? I don’t think so. I know you hate facts, but shouldn’t you at least consult your Koran before you make foolish statements like this? Or do facts matter to you? Islam is VERY specific about what should happen to fellow Muslims who “opt out” of the One True Religion. Just recently, an Afghani man was condemned to death in “liberated” Afghanistan for secretly converting to Chrisianity. At the last minute he was granted a reprieve and allowed to move to Italy. Check out the story here…

    http://www.dw-world.de/dw/article/0,2144,1940564,00.html

Can you think of any other religions anywhere on our planet in the year 2006 who put to death members of their community who “opt out” of their religion? Hmm. Help me here, Iain. Or who nowadays deface 2,000 year old religious shrines because they’re the “wrong” religion?

Knowing something about the subject you want to discuss is helpful for the rest of us. Better not ask Sara, though. She seems clueless to me.

  35. Here’s some examples of peaceful Muslims.

    http://www.timesonline.co.uk/article/0,,2-1904949,00.html

    http://www.forusa.org/peacewalks/default.html

Anybody have anymore examples? These took only a few seconds to find with google.

  36. Xenophon:
According to Deuteronomy 13, any “serious” Christian or Jew is compelled to stone to death their members who “opt out”.

    13:6 If thy brother, the son of thy mother, or thy son, or thy daughter, or the wife of thy bosom, or thy friend, which is as thine own soul, entice thee secretly, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which thou hast not known, thou, nor thy fathers;
    13:7 Namely, of the gods of the people which are round about you, nigh unto thee, or far off from thee, from the one end of the earth even unto the other end of the earth;
13:8 Thou shalt not consent unto him, nor hearken unto him; neither shall thine eye pity him, neither shalt thou spare, neither shalt thou conceal him:
13:9 But thou shalt surely kill him; thine hand shall be first upon him to put him to death, and afterwards the hand of all the people.
13:10 And thou shalt stone him with stones, that he die; because he hath sought to thrust thee away from the LORD thy God, which brought thee out of the land of Egypt, from the house of bondage.

I think it is really interesing that Islam is about 600 years younger than Christianity, and 600 years ago the Catholic Church was doing the exact same thing that Muslim Extremists are doing now. I don’t know if it means anything, but it is an odd coincidence.

And perhaps they are defacing shrines anymore, but Christians don’t seem to have any problem with hiding evidence that interferes with their beliefs. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/main.jhtml?xml=/news/2006/08/12/wleakey12.xml

And as far “Islamic fascists”, thank you for making my point better than I was able. Fascism is a 20th century invention. Theocracy has been around much longer. I’ll agree with you on calling them jihadists.

  37. Hey, James…when was the last time you know about a group of Christians stoning to death a member of their community for some breach of faith?

Go ahead and look. I’ll wait. Meanwhile, AS I WRITE, someone in a Muslim country somewhere in the world is facing death for heresy. It happens all the time. It is especially brutal for women.

What is variously called “radical Islam,” “militant Islam,” “political Islam,” “fundamentalist Islam,” “Islamo-fascism,” etc., is not a fringe cult. It is a highly developed system the history of which traces back centuries and which counts among its adherents many highly educated, highly intelligent people. It rejects fundamental premises of Western democracy — indeed, it blames Western democracy for the ills of the world.

Now, here’s what you don’t seem to get: it’s not just terrorists who believe this. The terrorists are the ones WILLING TO FIGHT over it, but there are tens of millions who AGREE WITH THEIR BELIEFS AND AIMS even if they are not willing to kill to see them actualized. That is why terrorism is not irreconcilable with democracy, but Islam may well be. And it’s why I don’t want them here in the West in large numbers. Beheading heretics is something we stopped doing in the West a long time ago. They still do it. Sharia law allows them to do it. Wherever you find large numbers of Muslims, you will find Sharia law.

  38. Sara, let me see if I can get something across to you, because you are obviously not getting it. WE ARE NOT CONCERNED ABOUT PEACEFUL MUSLIMS. Feel better now?

It’s the 10% fringe who take the Koran literally we are (or should be) concerned about. They are the ones who have always been the problem going back centuries. Just as we have our fanatic fundamentalists, they have theirs. The difference is that nowhere in our scriptures are we enjoined to kill those who are not of our religion. The Koran specifically does this…in many places. As a result, it also pops up in Sharia law. And this is why bringing in large numbers of Muslims to the West is a problem. We don’t know which ones are going to be the fanatics. And until we do figure this out, I say we keep these people at a respectful arms length and let them sort this problem out themselves. At the very least they should be heavily profiled by law enforcement. This is not a pleasant thing to do, but if we don’t we’re all going to put ourselves at further risk. This problem will not go away by trying to “understand” Muslims or “accommodate” them. Even if we were to ask our Israeli friends to pack up and leave the Middle East tomorrow, the problem would persist.

  39. There may not be stonings, but there is certainly an undercurrent of terrorism in Christian Fundamentalism. Homosexuals have been beaten to death and abortion clinics bombed. In India, the National Liberation Front of Tripura, is a Christian Church that has been linked to ethnic cleansing of Hindus. There is also the Christian Identity movement (which some say has connections to Tim McVeigh and Eric Rudolph), the IRA, the Lord’s Resistance Army, and Christian Reconstructionism.
Furthermore, Muslims that want to live under Sharia law have no reason to come to America. They would be much more comfortable in an Islamic state. Has there ever been a case where Muslims that were citizens of the U.S. committed an act like those above? I’m not aware of any. CAIR reports between 6 and 7 million Muslims living in the US. Do you not consider that a large number?
I’m all for background checks and due diligence for immigrants and visitors, but you cannot create a secondary class of American citizenship. It goes against everything this country stands for.
The key to exterminating extremism isn’t to further marginalize Muslims. Only by embracing them and integrating them into our society can we put an end to radical ideaologies

  40. Xenophone said: “The difference is that nowhere in our scriptures are we enjoined to kill those who are not of our religion.”
I assume you mean the Bible. Did you miss my post right above yours quoting Deuteronomy 13? Here’s the rest of the verse:

13:12 If thou shalt hear say in one of thy cities, which the LORD thy God hath given thee to dwell there, saying,
    13:13 Certain men, the children of Belial, are gone out from among you, and have withdrawn the inhabitants of their city, saying, Let us go and serve other gods, which ye have not known;
    13:14 Then shalt thou enquire, and make search, and ask diligently; and, behold, if it be truth, and the thing certain, that such abomination is wrought among you;
13:15 Thou shalt surely smite the inhabitants of that city with the edge of the sword, destroying it utterly, and all that is therein, and the cattle thereof, with the edge of the sword.
13:16 And thou shalt gather all the spoil of it into the midst of the street thereof, and shalt burn with fire the city, and all the spoil thereof every whit, for the LORD thy God: and it shall be an heap for ever; it shall not be built again.
    13:17 And there shall cleave nought of the cursed thing to thine hand: that the LORD may turn from the fierceness of his anger, and shew thee mercy, and have compassion upon thee, and multiply thee, as he hath sworn unto thy fathers;
13:18 When thou shalt hearken to the voice of the LORD thy God, to keep all his commandments which I command thee this day, to do that which is right in the eyes of the LORD thy God.

  41. Don’t play fast and loose with me, James. The stuff you’re quoting comes from the Hebrew bible, the Old Testament. That’s not Christianity. Christians may read it, just as they may also read Karl Marx or Sigmund Freud, but killing innocent people for ANY reason is not the way of Jesus. Christianity may be related to Judaism, but it isn’t Judaism. And Judaism isn’t Christianity. Find anything in Christian writings that suggest that it is the duty of a Christian to kill non-Christians. It isn’t there. You know it isn’t. Lying won’t help because I see right through you. And this nonsense about “Christians” committing acts of violence is simplistic. Anyone with an animous against any number of beliefs or ethicities can do whatever they wish in the name of religion, but that doesn’t justify it based on anything in Christian writings. A criminal is a criminal no matter what religion they espouse.

James, you are a nothing but a person filled with self-loathing, and as a result you resort to the worst kind of sly prevarications to put across your pathetic self-hatreds. If you hate yourself, your culture, your civilization, your ancestors and your religion so much, by all means join whichever “other” you find pleasing. But please don’t expect to fool the rest of us into joining you as a result of your strange pathological self hatred and penchant for cultural suicide. In fact, I’d love to see you peddle this stuff in Afghanistan. They’d cut your throat in the blink of an eye. Naturally the peaceful Muslims there would say how wrong it was. But you’d be dead, nevertheless.

Read what I said about those fundamentalist Muslim fanatics again. You can embrace them until the cows come home. In the end, you’ll always get Jihad from them. Not because they are criminals. Because they are the minority who take Islam seriously enough to kill for it. Just as they are taught. Just as it says in the Koran.

  42. I don’t know how much you know about the Christian Bible, but it actually does include the Old Testament. And Christians do not regard it anywhere similar to the works of Karl Marx and Sigmund Freud. To them, it is the Word of God which places it above any “work of man”. Whether they actually follow the laws set out in the OT varies, but many fundamentalist Christians do choose to follow parts of the OT.

You can attack me if you wish, but it doesn’t really say much for your position that you feel the need to. And I almost certainly would be put to death in Afganistan for my beliefs. Luckily, I live in America. You know, the country that welcomes people of all opinions and cultures? Some things are more important than safety

  43. Don’t feed the trolls, dear, and they go away. That said, your arguments are very good. I am duly impressed.

  44. How can something which was written 700 years before the birth of Christ be considered Christian? If that’s so, why not include Buddhism, the works of Zoroaster, or even Socrates? You are standing on shaky semantic ground here. But since your lies are more congenial to your personal belief system than the desire for objective truth, I’ll leave you to your mind f#&@*^$g. Don’t forget to slap a condom over your heads.

I’ll leave you permanently with this thought: By all means go to Afghanistan and test your theory. Take Sara with you. I’m sure she’ll look cute in a burka.

  45. […] This is the fucking state Constitution that secures MY rights? Anytime you’re in Arkansas feel free to come mug me or kill my family. We don’t believe in a god so it’s ok. And I wasn’t really ever interested in being Governor anyway. I am just so busy raping farm animals and burning churches. Who has the time to do all that and currupt my children at the same time? Honestly, we probably shouldn’t even be allowed to have children. We haven’t been properly brainwashing them about invisible sky man anyway. They’ll probably just grow up and finish that screenplay I’ve been writing about a gay Jesus. (I’m thinking of calling The Sermon on the Brokeback Mount.) Thanks Arkansas, for codifying just how much you are bunch of ignorant backward bigots! My family and I should have been valued members of your state. We are well educated and even though we do not fear a spanking from your zombie overlord, we still manage to lead highly moral lives. But perhaps we will move to a place less blatant about their intolerance. Someone told me just earlier today I should try moving to Afganistan. 46. See, gone. And good riddance.

  47. Xenophon:

The reason why Afganistan is so dangerous for non-muslims is that radical muslisms are in power.

But guess what. Radical cristians are not any better. If they would be in power things would be very much the same in the west as they are in the radical muslim countries.

Last time when cristian church had power over Europe it was called the dark middle age. And every time when cristianity has been in power it has been marked by killing and torture.

Give any religious grop power over others and things tend to turn nasty.
Just look at you own comments. Not much of tolerance for difference of opinion there.

  48. Iain Bennett Says:

Sara, well said. I think you’re making your point beautifully.

Xenophon, There are some places where you CANNOT opt out of religion. You couldnt choose not to be Catholic/Protestant in the older days of England for frear of execution. But we live in a different world. Maybe Muslims in other countries can’t “opt out” for fear of persecution. But in the western world, it is JUST A RELIGION. If I felt that I agreed with Islam’s teachings, I could become a Muslim right now. And, if later on. I felt it wasnt for me, i COULD opt out. Religion is not like being a citizen of a country. Religion is a way of chanelling your BELIEFS. If my beliefs changed, I could change religion.

  49. […] This the 2nd in our 287 part series, “2 out of 5 Americans Are Idiots.” According to the USA Today: ” A hefty 42% of Americans polled over the weekend said they think fuel prices are being manipulated by the Bush administration to help Republicans in an election year.” Anyone want to guess if it is same 40% that believe Muslims should carry special ID? […]

  50. I wanted to refute what Xenophon says, but where do you begin? 10% fringe? Not even 0.1% of muslims have EVER tried to kill an ‘infidel’. Yes, muslims are killed and opressed in their own countries, like the tens of thousands who are being killed each year at the orders of G.W. Bush. “…won an arguement…” You must be three years old. You don’t WIN an arguement. TWO parties can resolve one, but no one wins and no one loses (except both sides gain understanding). You can win a debate, where there are outside judges, but I have not heard of anyone stupid enough to be convinced by Xenomoron.

  52. MaggotBoy326 Says:

Liberals say that Islam is a religion of peace and tolerance and only a fringe few believe in terrorism. But extremist political parties have already won majority elections in Palestine and elsewhere. I do believe that Islam is talking out of both sides of it’s mouth by condemning terrorism and than five minutes later killing 50 people in a Jerusalem night club “in the name of Islam”. Muslims have a system that allows them to kill for their religion without actually looking like they want to kill for their religion. It is quite clever really. Muhammad is revered by the Muslims yet he commanded armies and ordered the assassinations of his enemies. Now Christianity certainly has it’s bloody history as well, but we’re not talking about events that happened 400 or 500 years ago. With Islam, we’re talking about things happening in the world right now. Unlike Christianity, Islam has a bloody past that spans 14 centuries and counting. Where as other religions has something to offer the world in the form of culture and civilization, Islam only seems to command obidience. Will there ever be an Islamic reformation? I certainly hope so.

  53. This is rediculous. If this happends, I will no longer consider this to be America. Let’s not also forget what happends when you give government a little something, it takes more. Can you really believe with the politically correct nation we live in, it will only be muslims carrying these cards? This would be just another attempt at stealing more of EVERYONES liberties. Try and give these cards to just one group and see how long it takes before every citizen is carrying a “special” I.D. card.

  54. Its amazing to what a sorry state the mindset of the people of America have came to.
If there is a bomb blast in Israel you have a Breaking News on all the TV channels in America. But everyday on an average 50 people die in Iraq because of the stupid & wrong policies of Bush & war hugry people around him. Those bomb blasts are just “one of the news”.
If Soviet Union had exsisted & would had committed somthing like what Bush and his war mongrels did the whole of Western Europe & America would had been up in arms.
Common america you have lost the credibilty of been a free society. Now everyone who is Muslim or his color is brown is been looked upon as a terrorists.
Not anymore is America is a free and fair society.Open your eyes to the truth & accept it.

  55. good job Sachin ! I believe what your saying. I also think more peaceful muslins should be speaking out. Many americans treat me different even if i was born here. But i love America and being a Muslin.
I also believed in what Brandon said Try and give these cards to just one group and see how long it takes before every citizen is carrying a “special” I.D. card. Thank God there’s still open minded people in America.

  56. There were several Clerics that were thrown off a Northwest flight because they were pratcing their devil worship on the plane. They have decied that perhaps Muslins should boycott Northwest Airlines. I think that if Muslins would boycott all airlines - airport security would not be an issue. We have had enough of these people and we need to send them to Alia Get out of my country.
