This is all about covering his own ass, but he tries to pass it off as protecting our military and our own security. I fail to see how basically ignoring the Geneva Convention helps make anyone safer at all, in fact just the opposite. If we ignore international law, then we can't expect to be protected by it. And if we are seen around the world as a lawbreaking nation, we will find it difficult to find allies in a time of need. Just how much damage can one president possibly do? New Orleans hasn't been rebuilt, nor have the people been taken care of. Our national debt has grown tremendously. We are involved in a war with no way out. We've lost most of our international respect. And no one has ever bothered to so much as build a memorial on Ground Zero. Bush has got to go, and two and a half years from now isn't soon enough.
