Glad Not to be in Kansas

Obviously, my last post was too little too late.  There is already a distinct lack of justice in this country.  This entry over at Positive Liberty (also covered at Pharyngula) would be unbelievable if it were not such a common occurence in the Bible Belt.  Here’s a quick synopsis:  A Kansas couple’s son buys a rainbow flag (can you guess where this is going) from a Wizard of Oz museum.  The boy dies and his parents decide to fly his flag outside their bed & breakfast in Meade, KS to remind them that he still exists “somewhere over the rainbow”.  Next thing you know, the entire town loses its fucking mind.  The flag has been cut down by some moron, and locals have compared it to flying a Nazi flag in a Jewish community.  Check out Positive Liberty and Pharyngula for much better commentaries, including information on how to contact the grieving parents.

  1. Yes, Arkansas is so much more reasonable and tolerant. Oh wait…honey, let’s move.

  2. I actually mentioned that on Pharyngula\’s blog. We need to move to one of those godless, liberal states. You know, the ones with the beaches.

  3. [...] Thanks to a little research and QueerlyKos (via Dispatches from the Culture War), I’ve been reminded how little difference there is between Kansas and Arkansas. (We have more than spelling in common.) I lived by Studio 716 for years. I didn’t even know it was a gay bar until I found that article through Dispatches. I used to drive by it many times on the way home from work when stuff was going on there, but still never knew. That is how little they were in people’s faces about it. (Which, even if they were is obviously no excuse.) From what I can tell they just wanted to be left alone, which was apprently too much to ask. It’s like Jesus said, “Love thy neighbor as thyself unless he be different from thou.” At least that’s what they appear to be teaching now. Even if you can’t love and accept those that are different from you, why can’t you let them live in peace.
