hehe…I’m going to have to share that with some people.
Is it just me, or is this really a half second video of nothing?
OK, being a computer tech, I got it working.
Very enlightening! I’ve heard part of this before, and many Christian traditions seem to originate with pagan ones. Funny how Christians seem to just ignore this and act like their religion is unique.
On another board someone asked if Atheists celebrate Christmas. This is what I said:
Celebrate is probably not the right word, but we do exchange gifts on Christmas. I look forward to it as a time of fellowship with my friends and family and an opportunity to reflect on my path in life. Christmas isn’t even originally a Christian holiday so blow the hypocrisy out your arse. If the Christians can take a Roman holiday and make it their own, I can take it from them.
Why would it be celebrated in Winter when the Bible is pretty clear that Jesus wasn’t born in Winter?
And this is the response he gave me:
You are a hypocrite, and as a matter of fact you are the worst kind, because your hate of all things Christian blinds you to recognizing it. Right now you are sitting there in your “I hate God” Pjs, stewing, because you have been called out on being a hypocrite.
What is funny is you try so hard to make your case. You try and prove that Christmas isn’t about Jesus with the links you provided. When in fact, all your links do is try and explain why the date was chosen, not what the Holiday is. Nice try though. Actually it was a poor try. (I was trying to be nice since today is Christmas and we are supposed to be celebrating the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ.)
Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Christ. Irregardless if the actual date coincides with some Roman/Pagan holiday. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus. The actual date is inconsequential the meaning of the holiday is not.
Typical strawman argument. I never tried to show that Christmas isn’t about Jesus, but try to open their mind to one new thing and they think you are attacking every belief they hold.
“Right now you are sitting there in your ‘I hate God’ Pjs, stewing…”
Wow, what a moron. How can you hate God if you don’t believe he exists? I know I’m preaching to the choir, but good idea not taking this hateful, uptight jerk seriously. He needs to see the Mithras information.
…and what does he mean YOU’re trying so hard?
… and ‘Irregardless’ is a word used almost exclusively by idiots.
I know, now I’m taking him/her too seriously, huh?
