Respect for others’ beliefs

Respecting others’ beliefs is a great thing, but reacting to it is not. A little girl’s passport photo was rejected in the UK because she was showing bare shoulders because that might offend someone if she traveled to a Muslim country. It should be pointed out that no where on the application did it say anything about bare shoulders being inappropriate and that is not official policy. But this is a classic case of “your right to swing your face ends at my nose.” If Muslims are so afraid of seeing bare shoulders on a 5 year old girl, maybe they should blindfold themselves. We (or the UK in this case) sure as hell shouldn’t be changing our behavior just because they don’t like it.

  1. I so hate the idea of someone telling me how to dress that I sometimes dress more provoctively than I really want to, just because I CAN!
